As part of Ford’s commitment to electrifying our range, Kuga is available in three hybrid options: EcoBlue Hybrid, Full Hybrid and a Plug-in Hybrid.
Ford’s advanced hybrid technology is designed to deliver a cleaner, quieter, more sophisticated approach to hybrid SUV driving.
Equally as sophisticated, the Kuga EcoBlue Diesel (FWD and AWD) and EcoBoost Petrol offer advanced non-hybrid engine options. The choice is yours.
Mild Hybrid Kuga
With the Mild Hybrid Kuga (MHEV), the traditional internal combustion engine is assisted by an electric motor. At low speed, or when stationary, the engine can switch itself off and the 48V starter-generator seamlessly restarts when needed. The separate 48V Li-ion battery is automatically recharged by regenerative braking during coasting and braking. There is no requirement to connect the battery to a power source.
Mild Hybrid powertrains can be a cost-effective way to join the electric revolution. They are also a great option for people who do a lot of shorter journeys, especially around town and at lower average speeds. Kuga is available with both Petrol and Diesel Mild Hybrid powertrain. EcoBoost Hybrid is available with the 1.0-litre EcoBoost petrol engine and an EcoBlue Hybrid diesel option is available using the latest Euro 6 technology.
Plug-in Hybrid Kuga
Kuga’s advanced Plug-in Hybrid (PHEV) technology combines a battery-powered electric motor with a 2.5-litre Duratec petrol engine. The hybrid battery can be recharged at home or public charging stations. Energy recaptured while braking also helps charge the battery as you drive. Fully charged, the Kuga PHEV can drive up to 35miles†† on electric power alone, and a total hybrid driving range of up to 465miles.
Wherever the destination, the Kuga Plug-in Hybrid
uses two sources of power to get you there more efficiently. An advanced
electric powertrain lets you make shorter trips of up to 35miles on zero emissions††,
and can recharge anywhere you have access to mains power. For longer journeys,
the conventional combustion engine ensures you can go as far as you need to,
using powersplit technology to help recharge the Hybrid battery as you drive.
While energy captured through regenerative braking also helps to extend your
electric range even further.
Available to order, the self-charging Kuga Hybrid combines a highly efficient 2.5-litre Duratec engine with a battery-powered electric motor and optional AWD. As with the EcoBlue Hybrid, the system, recaptures energy usually lost while decelerating. But the larger battery can store more power to further improve fuel economy and even drive short distances on electric power alone.
A system that can help protect pedestrians
Pre-Collision Assist with Pedestrian Detection uses camera technology to scan the road ahead. If a collision risk with a vehicle, pedestrian or cyclist is detected, it’ll then provide you with a warning. If you don’t respond in time, the system can automatically apply up to full braking force to help reduce the severity of, or even eliminate, some frontal collisions.
Serious pulling power
From small trailer to sailboat or large caravan: with its impressive towing capacity of up to 2,100 kg†, the Ford Kuga is more than capable of handling your weekend away.
The optional, electrically-operated retractable tow bar can be manually stowed out of sight when not needed. Release it at the touch of a button, then retract it with a swift and easy action. An optional fully detachable tow bar is also available.
Charging on the go
The interior of the Kuga is designed to maximise space and convenience. For example, the large media container in the centre console is big enough for even the largest smartphones. And with wireless charging also available for compatible smartphones, it has never been easier to make sure your devices are always ready to use.
Flexible seating adapts to your needs
The Kuga is designed to be ready for anything, with a dynamic new interior design that gives you ultimate freedom, and adapts to every journey. Need more boot-space for a big trip or prefer the luxury of extra leg-room in the back? Flexible rear seating slides forward or backward to suit your needs, so you have no trouble packing anything you need.
Spacious and practical
Make easy work of shopping trips and school runs. Or why not throw a couple of bikes in the back and head out to explore? Kuga’s flexible rear seating and up to 1530 litres of storage capacity ensures you’ll always have all the space you’ll need.

Intelligent Adaptive Cruise ControlFREEDOM TO JUST DRIVE
Intelligent Adaptive Cruise Control keeps you travelling at a speed you choose. If the built-in RADAR sensor detects a vehicle ahead, it slows your vehicle to maintain a safe distance. Then, once the road is clear, the system automatically accelerates back up to the chosen speed. Add that to the Lane Keeping System, which helps prevent unintentional drifts over the lines, and those long journeys become even more enjoyable.
